Is working as a data entry operator fun? What will be a day in the life of a data entry operator? If you’re interested in this career, you have come to the right place!
I will discuss all tasks of a data entry operator based on my personal experience and view. From the daily events to specific tasks, you will gain a detailed overview of this profession. Let’s get going!
Data entry operators deal with collecting and entering data records. They start with collecting data from multiple sources, such as websites and documents.
Then, they will feed the collected data to database systems. The operators must ensure that all the entry data is accurate and organized. Also, operators are responsible for maintaining the records of data.
There’s not much of a challenge working as a data entry operator. I spend most of my time dealing with collecting and organizing data.
Most companies that operate a large network or system will need an operator. They will help update and maintain data on the company’s database.
Data entry operators can also work as freelancers. They will work for a few customers at once. It’s also my current employment method.
I am currently working for a few companies that specialize in different areas. They range from online stores to web services. I know these customers via an online job-hunting platform.
The customers will send me projects to handle. For example, they may ask me to collect all data from their documents and insert it into a system. Thus, they can have a detailed and organized report of their company’s data.
Also, they can ask me to do further research and collect data from external sources. There is some office work and checking involved in my daily tasks.
If I can deliver high-quality results, the customers will sign long-term contracts with me. Now let’s discover the events that happen in a day of my work!
As a freelancer, I carry out most of my tasks at home or anywhere. I can also go out to meet with customers to discuss the contracts. Most of the resources from clients will be sent through my email.
Despite the flexible working schedule, I always discipline myself to wake up at 8:00 AM. After my morning routine and a quick meal, I will check my email.
I scroll through the mail to look for tasks or messages from clients. If there’s nothing new, I will spend the day completing the ongoing projects.
I sit at my working desk and begin my daily data entry tasks. I start with reviewing customers’ data sources and documents provided through email.
For example, an online sales company may send me documents of the sales result and products. They ask me to develop a database that includes product information, price, and sales revenue.
There are also additional factors like review ratings and shipping costs. I will design a database that perfectly matches customers’ requests. Then, I will categorize the information and insert it into the database.
I must be extremely careful during this process. All minor details must be precise because customers will review my report later.
3. Data Reporting (10:00 AM)
Customers also request me to find additional information. I can research the other competitors’ stores or sales platforms to collect more data.
When the database is completed, I will spend my time checking all the details. I must ensure that there are no typing errors or incorrect spellings.
Then, I will send the complete data report to clients and wait for feedback. Once the customer approves my project, I will receive the remaining payment discussed in the contract.
After lunch, I return to the other unfinished projects at 1:00 PM. My afternoon shift lasts from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Sometimes I need to work overtime if the customers set up a tight deadline.
My work focuses on collecting and displaying data. Therefore, I try my best to deliver the project in the shortest time possible.
